This lamp came to being after a delicious dinner and a night cap of Jaime I brandy. When we finished, my friend Andrew said that I should make a lamp out of the cool metal container the bottle came in. Challenge accepted, and the Andrew Lamp was born after a few weeks of debating what it would look like.

Those who know me know that I love burl, and I was thinking through how I could incorporate burl into this project. I love the work of George Nakashima and he used burls in many of his lamps, often times as a base and I settled on using a beautiful maple burl that would pop. I used a small section of claro walnut as the crosspiece and decided that it needed a little brushed brass on each side to give it a more polished look.

For the lamp, the wood that came with the original bottle was way too soft to use in the lamp (I believe pine, after sanding a portion) and it would mar entirely too easily. So I carefully removed the end caps and turned some walnut to replace it. I lined the metal frame with rattan and carefully raised it off the burl with 3 1/4" thick brass rods. I finished it off with 2 4 watt LED RBG (red, blue, green, ie., the lamp can change colors) that operate on a remote and switch on the cord.

This is a real one-of-a-kind lamp that is sure to be noticed in your space as a conversation starter. I hope you love it. I do.
